- Mapzzle has no accounts and no ads.
- Your puzzle progress, best times and settings stay on your device.
- We only receive personal data if you choose to send us feedback.
- We never sell or share your data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Mapzzle ("the app") is a geography jigsaw and quiz game developed by Josep Coll Piferrer ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. If anything here is unclear, write to privacy@mapzzle.com.
Sections marked Planned describe features that are not yet in the released app. They are listed here in advance so you know what to expect; this policy will be dated again when they ship.
1. Data stored on your device
Everything you do while playing — solved puzzles, best times, achievements, chosen theme, language, sound settings and which map packs you have downloaded — is stored only in the app's own storage on your device. We cannot read it, and it is not backed up to any server we control. Your device's own backup system (iCloud or Google backup) may include it, under Apple's or Google's terms.
Deleting the app deletes this data.
2. Downloading maps
Map packs are downloaded from our server, which runs on Cloudflare. Like any web request, a download tells the server your IP address, the approximate time of the request and basic technical details such as your device's operating system and app version. We use this only to deliver the files you asked for and to keep the service working and protected from abuse. We do not build profiles from it and do not link it to anything you do inside the app.
3. Feedback and map requests
If you use the in-app feedback form to send a comment or request a new map, we receive:
- the message you wrote;
- your email address, only if you choose to type one so we can reply;
- the app's language setting and the app version, which help us understand the report.
These are stored in our database on Cloudflare and forwarded to our own inbox. We use them to answer you and to decide which maps to build next. We keep them while they are useful for that, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time by writing to privacy@mapzzle.com.
Please don't put personal details you don't want us to hold into the message field — a short description of the map or the problem is all we need.
4. Purchases Planned
Mapzzle will offer a single one-time purchase that unlocks all map packs. Payment is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play, with RevenueCat used to check whether the purchase is valid. We never see your card details, billing address or store account. We receive only an anonymous purchase identifier telling the app that the unlock applies, so that restoring your purchase works on your other devices.
5. Crash reports and usage statistics Planned
To find crashes and understand which parts of the game are used, the app will include Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics from Google. These collect:
- crash reports: what the app was doing when it stopped, device model, operating system version and app version;
- basic usage events such as a puzzle being started or finished, a map pack being downloaded, or the purchase screen being opened, together with a randomly generated app instance identifier.
Advertising identifier collection is switched off, so this data is not used for advertising and is not shared with advertisers. It is pseudonymous: it is not tied to your name or email.
6. What we never do
- No advertising, and no advertising or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or renting of personal data, and no sharing it for anyone else's marketing.
- No access to your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. The app does not request these permissions.
- No accounts, so no passwords and no social-network logins.
7. Services we rely on
| Service | What it does for Mapzzle | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the map catalogue, map files and the feedback database; serves this website | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Distribute the app and process purchases | apple.com/legal/privacy · policies.google.com/privacy |
| RevenueCat Planned | Verifies the one-time unlock purchase and restores it on your devices | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Google Firebase Planned | Crash reports and basic usage statistics | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
These providers operate internationally, so data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards described in their own policies.
8. Children
Mapzzle is suitable for all ages and is rated 4+ / Everyone, but it is a general audience app rather than one directed specifically at children. It shows no ads and asks for no personal information in order to play. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal data through the feedback form, write to privacy@mapzzle.com and we will delete it.
9. Why we are allowed to use this data
Where data protection law such as the GDPR applies, our grounds are:
- Performing our agreement with you — delivering the map packs you download and, once purchases launch, honouring your unlock.
- Our legitimate interests — keeping the service secure and available, answering your feedback, and fixing crashes.
- Your consent — where the platform or the law requires it, for example the optional email address you type into the feedback form, or any analytics consent prompt shown on your device. You can withdraw it at any time.
10. Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, or provide it in a portable form. Write to privacy@mapzzle.com and we will respond within one month. In practice the only data we are likely to hold is a feedback message and the email address you gave with it.
You can also remove all local data yourself at any time by deleting the app, and you may complain to your national data protection authority if you think we have handled your data wrongly.
11. Security and retention
Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the feedback database is restricted to the developer. We keep feedback for as long as it is useful for improving the app, and server logs only for the short period our hosting provider retains them.
12. Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently — in particular when the purchase and analytics features above go live — we will update this page and change the date at the top. The current version always lives at mapzzle.com/privacy.
